CEPHALOPODS OCTOPUS

OCTOPUS (OCTOPUS VULGARIS)

The octopus is characterized by having a soft body, with a well-developed brain and eight rays, which have two rows of suckers. Octopuses are carnivorous and hunt bivalve organisms, crustaceans, mollusks and small fish at night, which makes their meat highly appreciated for its intense flavor, as well as being a rich source of selenium, potassium, iron and vitamin B.

There are many ways of fishing for octopus, but the most widely used on our coast is fishing with alcatruzes (clay containers), which consists of tying a series of alcatruzes together with a strong string to serve as a refuge for the octopus.

These containers are deposited on the seabed, where they remain to "fish" on their own. The next day they are collected from the sea and live octopuses are taken out of them.
